Installing four Level 3 EVGO chargers at the city’s busy municipal center while meeting the high expectations for safety, efficiency, and aesthetics. The timeline was tight, and the stakes were high.
EVPV stepped in to manage the entire project. Acting as the bridge between city officials, utility companies, contractors, and EVGO, the team ensured that every piece fit together smoothly. They tackled every challenge that came up, turning potential roadblocks into stepping stones.
Finding Space for Upgrades: The existing infrastructure couldn’t handle the new charging load. The utility transformer needed a serious upgrade, which meant a big overhaul to the original plan.
Sorked closely with the utility company to schedule a transformer replacement with minimal disruption to the city’s services. Prewiring and trenching were completed ahead of time to keep things moving smoothly.
A Better Look for the Community: The equipment installation had one problem, it looked bulky and out of place in the well-kept area. The city didn’t want the new charging hub to become an eyesore.
So the team added a protective fence around the switchgear, blending it into the surroundings while also boosting security. A simple fix that made a big difference.
Last-Minute Technical Glitches: Nobody likes anything last minute and during the final testing, an unexpected issue occurred—a component blew up. The team heard a loud bang, and the system went down.
But EVPV had prepared for surprises like this. We always plan for the unexpected and with a spare part on hand, the component was replaced quickly, and testing resumed without a hitch.
Stuck in the Middle of Testing: While testing with a borrowed Nissan LEAF, the CHadeMO charging cable locked onto the car and it wouldn’t release. The owner needed her car back, but the charger wouldn’t let go.
What could we do about that? Well Ethan, the on-site manager (and EVPV Founder), didn’t hesitate. He offered his own car to the owner so she could pick up her child, while the team carefully freed the cable. Quick thinking turned what could’ve been a big issue into a positive experience for everyone involved.
